Brigham Young is born in the town of Whitingham to a family of Vermont farmers
23 Dec 1805:
Joseph Smith Junior is born in Sharon, Vermont
1811:
The Smith family moves to Lebanon, New Hampshire
1812:
A local typhoid epidemic kills 6,000 and infects the Smith children
1816:
The Smith family moves to Palmyra, New York
1817:
Young leaves his family and sets out as a carpenter and handyman
1820:
'The Vision' - Smith witnesses a pillar of light descending from heaven
21 Sep 1823:
Smith receives a vision of the angel named Moroni, who speaks of a book written on gold plates
22 Sep 1823:
Smith locates the book in a box but is told by Moroni that he cannot take the gold plates yet
19 Nov 1823:
Joseph Smith's eldest brother Alvin dies
Oct 1825:
Smith falls in love with 21 year old Emma Hale
Mar 1826:
Smith is accused of fraudulent use of seer stones
18 Jan 1827:
Joseph Smith and Emma Hale marry against her father's wishes
22 Sep 1827:
Smith digs up the gold plates. Moroni warns not to let anyone know
Apr 1828:
Harris loses the only copy of the book
15 Jun 1828:
Emma gives birth to a child, Alvin who dies that same day
22 Sep 1828:
Smith gets the gold plates and interpretation device back
5 Apr 1829:
Oliver Cowdery arrives and becomes a scribe for Smith
15 May 1829:
John the Baptist announces that Smith will be 'the first Elder of the Church' and Cowdery the second
Jun 1829:
Copyright is received for the Book of Mormon
Aug 1829:
Smith locates a publisher
Aug 1829:
Harris loans on his mortgage to cover costs
